The Kingsway neighbourhood
The Kingsway neighbourhood was originally developed by Robert Home Smith. The development was started in 1912, but the World War I and inadequate transportation slowed down its progress. Once the Bloor Street bridge was built over the Humber River, the home sales in the Kingsway began in ernest. Home Smith designed the homes in The Kingsway to resemble English country residences. This fine neighbourhood's appeal can be attributed in large part to Robert Home Smith's vision.
Adjacent to the Humber River Valley, The Kingsway is a green and family friendly neighbourhood. Streets have no sidewalks, but are shaded by majestic oak trees. Stately homes sit on good size lots. Some of the best residences back onto the Humber ravine. Schools, excellent Kingsway shopping and churches are all within walking distance. Subway like provides easy transportation downtown, and the airport is a short drive away.
Kingsway Village shopping district on Bloor Street West has many specialty shops and boutiques. For larger grocery shopping the residents have an easy access to a large Loblaws market on Dundas just east of the Humber. Tennis courts and a winter skating rink are available in the Lambton-Kingsway Park, and there is a hockey arena and a swimming pool on Montgomery Road. Public Library at 36 Brentwood Road North offers a variety of programming for children and adults.
